Rijkswaterstaat: Much of the roadside in the Netherlands is unsafe

The report entitled “State of Infrastructure” was sent to the Sejm by Infrastructure Minister Visser, writes M. The authors of the report say that improving roadside safety could save many deaths from road accidents.

Of the motorways in the Netherlands, 42 percent appear to have an unsafe shoulder. For N roads this is 44 percent. This is the first time that Rijkswaterstaat has checked roadside safety.

An embankment is safe if there are no trees, bushes, or other obstacles for motorists to run into. If there is a crash barrier, it must ensure the safety of road users. This is not the case in many places.
