RIVM: 19 percent drop in positive tests, but Omicron is ahead

Most infections are in children

The percentage of positive tests increased last week: from 23.4 to 23.9. This happened when the number of people reporting to the streets of GGD testing decreased. The number of tests decreased from 454,000 tests last week to 381,000 tests last week.

Most infections were still in children, although there was also a decrease. Last week saw 10,221 positive tests in the 5-9 age group and 9,036 in the 10-14 age group. Together, children make up 20 percent of the total number of positive tests. School closures are too recent to be reversed in these numbers.

The GGD region most infected in the past seven days was the southern Southern Netherlands (Dordrecht and surrounding areas) with 649 infections per 100,000 population. Zeeland is slightly behind, followed by Zaanstreek-Waterland.

Possible Verstappen effect

Last week, 478 positive tests were carried out by travelers who had recently visited the UAE. This is much more than it has been in recent months. Between September 20 and the beginning of last week, the total number of infected travelers from this country reached 114.

This could be due to the last Formula 1 race of the season in the capital Abu Dhabi, where Max Verstappen won the world title just over a week ago. An estimated 5,000 Dutch people traveled to the Abu Dhabi circuit for this purpose.
